The azienda agrituristica Masseria Cardillo is situated on three hillocks facing the green and quiet plain of Metaponto and is the ideal place for those people who wish to spend a quite relaxing holiday in the middle of nature.

We are in the district of Bernalda, a small town near Matera, in the heart of Magna Grecia, an area rich of centres of great historical interest, at km. 96 on S.S. 407 Basentana.

Masseria Cardillo is an impressive estate that was restored in 2001. The old hayloft and farmhouse has come alive again through a simple and elegant conversion of the spacious rooms.

On entering the big shared living room you will be impressed by its elegance and simplicity. The antique vaulted ceilings and the stunning floor in white stone create a unique contrast. The comfortable sofas are just perfect for night time relaxation or for enjoying the hottest hours of the day in a pleasant and cool environment. In winter, however, the fireplace and heating produces enough heat to make you forget the negative sides of the olden days

Masseria Cardillo  has spacious and smart bedrooms, swimming pool in the garden, superb and enormous living room with fireplace, which can be easily used for conferences and meetings, and a restaurant offering produce from the area and the farm itself. Masseria Cardillo produces its own cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, honey, marmalade, fruit and vegetables.

We have ten double and/or triple rooms which are comfortable and pleasant, furnished in the style of old homes of Lucania.

They are all equipped with private bathrooms, heating, conditioned air and all sort of modern comforts and facilities.

The bedrooms are all beautifully furnished and have private terrace, air conditioning and spacious en suite bathroom with shower. With the intention of making the rooms appear as original as possible TVs are deliberately not part of the interior design… but they are available on request. Instead of spending time watching TV we would rather suggest a visit to the nearby old town of  Matera (in Sassi), the antique Metaponto, the delightful trulli in Alberobello, or otherwise enjoy the nearby beach (5 km away)… unless you want to lie by the swimming pool here.

A golf course is only five minutes away from the farm, where golf lovers can play 18 holes

Not far from our "agriturismo" there is Matera, where you can visit "I SASSI", UNESCO worldwide heritage, and the rock churches. You can also visit the Magna Grecia archaelogical museum, the Pollino National Park, (one of the most beautiful naturalistic area in south of Italy), the Montescaglioso, abbey, Martina Franca (a wonderful baroque small town), Grottaglie (famous for its ceramics) the Alberobello "Trulli" (very particular kind of houses), the Castellana caves and many other beautiful places.

The 18 holes weave their way through the delightful pine wood which gives an immediate general idea of the beauty of the course. In stretches it reminds you of the famous British links courses although here the climate is always ideal. The 18 hole golf course is set in an extremely attractive an relaxing landscape and year after year it has always bettered its quality.

Metaponto
The 18 holes course - 6.284 metres long - par 72 - is open, has wide fairways, very undulated green, several lakes and channels. Whilst the first 4 holes are enclosed in a citrus orchard, the others are dominated by strategically positioned, secular olive trees.  Some arid zones with ficus indica cactuses amplify the mediterranean aspect of this area. A very technical course then, that will require good drive shots especially from the white tees.
